Bike to Wherever Day

Today was Bike to Wherever Day, and Owen and I celebrated with a little extra adventure. We left for daycare earlier than usual so we could stop by the SF Bike Coalition’s Energizer station in Golden Gate Park. The ride through the park was perfect. Owen initially looked confused since we were taking a different route that instead of the normal rows of houses had a bunch of trees. He loved waving at the volunteers and walking around the Energizer station looking at everyone.

I brought the bubble machine and used it while on the JFK Promenade. It was a hit. Everyone we passed lit up as we rode by leaving a trail of bubbles.

I still take Owen to daycare by bike every day, and this little detour made the morning feel special. I want him to grow up knowing cars aren’t the only mode of transportation. Bikes are freedom. Bikes are fun. And in a city like San Francisco, they are one of the best ways to explore.

I can’t wait for him to get a little older and more into playgrounds and all the things in the city we can discover on two wheels.
